Geo-economics remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy: Ishaq Dar

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar addressed the closing session of the Pakistan Policy Dialogue 2026, organised by the Policy Research and Advisory Council. He underscored that economic correction requires firm foundations, responsible governance, policy consistency and institutional reforms to deliver economic stability.

Ishaq Dar noted that under Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, tough but essential reforms are being advanced with clarity and purpose. Key measures including privatisation of state-owned enterprises, circular debt reduction, right-sizing government and digital governance are producing results, which are reflected in a current account surplus, easing inflation, stronger revenues and renewed investor confidence.

Ishaq Dar reiterated that geo-economics remains a cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy. CPEC 2.0 with China, alongside expanding economic engagement with the US, Europe, the Gulf and Central Asia, is driving trade, investment, connectivity and jobs, with new opportunities being pursued in East Asia and Africa.

He stressed that the next phase must translate reforms into outcomes to sustain economic stability and unlocking inclusive prosperity for all Pakistanis.
