Govt cares out way for relief to people despite petroleum levy being related to IMF program : Ministers

Islamabad: Federal ministers have said implementation of Prime Minister (PM) Fuel Relief Scheme (FRS) has been started to save weak and marginalized sections of society from impact of petroleum crisis at international level.

5 liter petrol relief will be given to motor cycle owners and 10 liter petrol relief will be given to owners of upto 800 CC vehicles.

The name of consumer and mobile sim should be on one name for registration.

It is better this party should abandon dharnas politics and adopt politics for serving people, this was said by by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja here while addressing a press conference with to PM Fuel Scheme Relief.

Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja has said that a simplified registration procedure, with minimum checks and balances, has been introduced to ensure that the maximum number of eligible people can benefit from the Prime Minister's fuel relief scheme.

Flanked by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, she was addressing a news conference in Islamabad today.

She said the scheme is targeted at users of two- and three-wheelers, as well as vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive a fuel subsidy of one hundred rupees per litre.

Sharing details of the registration process, the Minister for Information Technology said eligible applicants can register from home by sending their CNIC number, plate number, the first letter of their province, and the vehicle's registration date to 9771. She said this will complete the registration process.

She said before visiting a petrol station, registered beneficiaries will need to send TOK to 9771 to receive a fuel relief token. The fuel station will then provide the subsidized fuel upon seeing the token number.

The Information Minister said that this fuel relief scheme is meant for the deserving people in order to reduce their burden in the current situation. He said all options will be used to ensure greater awareness about the scheme. He mentioned that austerity measures are also being taken.

In his remarks, the Minister for Petroleum said that the government will provide twenty five billion rupees per month for the fuel relief scheme.

He said regardless of scarcity of resources, the government has tried to protect the weak segments of the society.

He held that government has found a way for providing relief to weak segments despite IMF program. Fuel relief scheme will be launched at 150 petrol pumps in Islamabad initially. Special war room has been set up for the scheme. If petrol pump faces any problem it will be redressed through war room immediately. Relief amount will not stop in the system like circular loan but payment will be made to petrol pumps on daily basis. state bank and ministry of finance are assisting in this regard.
