Govt considering to extend protected category limit to 301 units

Islamabad: The government is considering to extend limit of protected category to 301 units.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the complaints with reference to protected consumers.

As per media reports a high level committee will be established to consider to extend limit of protected category till 301 units.

According to sources consumers using electricity upto 201 units come out of protected category till 6 months. Committee will work out report on restricting protected category to 200 units or providing relief till 300 units.

Sources said the proposal is under consideration to extend protected category from 201 units to 301 units.

PM Shehbaz Sharif was informed about the excesses to which electricity consumers are being subjected to.

According to sources the members of assembly have their stance on this issue that this is injustice with the consumers that they have to pay additional bill to the tune of Rs 5000 for next months for mere consuming one unit in excess of 200 units.

Committee will review the entire matter and place proposals before the cabinet. The matter of 200 units will be resolved on committee proposals.

Sources said non protected ratio is likely to be applied to consumption of electricity upto 301 units. There is proposal too that 201 units ratio will be implemented this month only.
