Govt is empowered to impose super tax: FCC

Islamabad: Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has announced short decision in super tax case.

The court has remarked federal government is empowered to impose super tax.

The FCC has restored section 4-B of income tax.

Chief Justice Amin ud Din Khan read out the decision.

Earlier the FCC had reserved judgment on completion of hearing in super tax case.

A 3-member bench presided over by Chief Justice Amin ud Din Khan had heard the case.

During the hearing of the case Makhdoom Ali Khan counsel for different companies completed his arguments.

CJ Amin ud Din Khan remarked we will try to announce short decision today. Wait for order. If it does not become possible today then short decision will be issued tomorrow.

Later the court has issued decision.

The decision said the objections over maintainability of the case are rejected. Section 4-B of tax law is declared valid. Parliament is empowered to impose tax on income.
