Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought progress report from the respective institutions in the case pertaining to establishment of governing body of Workers Welfare Board (WWB) and alleged embezzlement of billion of rupees .

During the hearing of the case justice Adnan Karim Memon remarked 8 billion rupees is so mammoth amount. We are told Pakistan is very poor country. But billion of rupees are being devoured here.

The court remarked government is striving to pursue austerity but here billion of rupees are being devoured. No one cares for it. The courts have been asked to remain closed on Friday too. One day was reduced from where the justice was to be administered.

The court gave these remarks on Wednesday.

SHC constitutional bench took up for hearing the petition filed against establishment of governing body of WWB in labor department.

The state counsel sought time to file reply.

Upon it the court sought progress report.

The court inquired Sukkar high court had ordered for inquiry into alleged corruption of billion of rupees in Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) . What has been done in this regard.

Additional Attorney General told the court inquiry into billion of rupees corruption is going on. Inquiry into corruption of Rs 8 billion is running.

Nisar Durrani counsel for the petitioner took the plea the job of WWB is to make decision in regard to welfare of the laborers. 4 labor representatives were included in the board. But bank employees, agriculture employees were included in place of laborers.

The counsel for labor union told the court embezzlement has been committed in Rs 8 billion released under the head of insurance of the employees.

The court while summoning report from the respective institutions adjourned the hearing of the case.
