Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has given reply to Sindh government on its letter in connection with inquiry into Gul Plaza inferno.
SHC has said government itself can conduct inquiry as per Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Act-2017.
Supreme Court (SC) has set the standards of judicial inquiry. Consultation with chief justice is not necessary in connection with judicial commission comprising former judge or legal experts.
It is pertinent to mention here Sindh government had written a formal letter to SHC for inquiry into Gul Plaza tragedy. The Sindh government had recommended to hold inquiry by serving judge of SHC into the Gul Plaza tragedy.
Subcommittee under Chief Minister Sindh had decided to hold judicial inquiry into the incident. The responsibility and administrative negligence in Gul Plaza tragedy will be fixed in the inquiry.
The provincial government had requested chief justice SHC to nominate judge to hold inquiry.
