Govt, opposition and establishment will have to remain within their Constitutional limits for political stability: Liaqat Baloch

Lahore: Deputy Emir Jamaat-e-Islami and Secretary General Milli Yakjehti Council, Liaqat Baloch has said that for political stability, the government, the opposition, and the establishment must return to abiding by constitutional limits. He said that every passing day is increasing disappointment, hatred, and extremism among the people.

While congratulating Allama Dr. Raghib Naeemi on being reappointed as Chairman of the Islamic Ideological Council (IIC), Liaqat Baloch said that the Council is a constitutional institution. It has rendered valuable services in bringing the country's laws in line with the Qur'an and Sunnah, according to the requirements of the Constitution of Pakistan, he said. The Council has submitted several reports containing recommendations to Parliament on many un-Islamic and unconstitutional laws introduced by the government, but governments and Parliament have not been willing to discuss or implement these recommendations.

Liaqat Baloch said that every ruling party knows how to chant the slogans of the Constitution and Parliament, but none pay attention to implementing the guiding principles of the Constitution and the objectives for which Pakistan was created. In particular, the recommendations of the Islamic Ideological Council and the decisions of the Federal Shariat Court (FSC) are given no importance.

He said that because of deviating from Islamic principles and the commands based on the supremacy of the Qur'an and Sunnah, evils such as secularism, materialism, unrestricted freedom, and permissiveness-harmful to humanity and society-have become widespread, while Islamic social and cultural values based on purity and morality are in decline.

He urged Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to present a roadmap for cleansing the country's economic system from interest (riba), in light of the historic decision of the Federal Shariat Court, and to bring the banking system in line with Islamic injunctions. The recommendations of the Islamic Ideological Council should be discussed in Parliament and the provincial assemblies, and the importance of this constitutional institution should be acknowledged in policy-making.

Commenting on the Prime Minister's claim that the government would win the next elections based on performance, Liaqat Baloch said that performance indeed matters, but political character, impartial elections, and a position of respect, dignity, and trust among the people are even more important. In reality, although elections, governments, Parliament, provincial governments, and the appearance of governance exist, 250 million people are suffering from distrust, uncertainty, and dissatisfaction. As a result of the 2024 elections, governments formed on the basis of Form-47 have no credibility.

Liaqat Baloch welcomed the Punjab government's directive regarding one-dish meals at wedding ceremonies and time restrictions in marriage halls. He said this should be enforced not only in Lahore but across Punjab. Under the MMA, Jamaat-e-Islami was the party that introduced the one-dish bill in Parliament, which was supported by the government as well as all parliamentary parties, and it became law after being approved by Parliament. Unfortunately, this law is still not being implemented properly.
