Govt works out plan for procurement of wheat

Islamabad: Government has worked out plan for procurement of wheat and draft on interim wheat policy for the current year has been given final shape.

Food Security Ministry sources said recommendations regarding interim policy will be presented before federal cabinet in coming weeks. Government will purchase overall 6.25 million metric tones wheat.

According to sources federal and provincial governments will purchase wheat through private sector and not from farmers directly. Private sector will conduct the process of purchasing the wheat this year.

Sources said federation will purchase 1.5 million tones wheat, Punjab 2.5 million tone, Sindh one million tone, KP 7.5 lac tones and Balochistan 5 lac tones wheat.

Government has fixed Rs 3500 per maund , indicative wheat price.

Sources said support price of wheat has not been fixed and there will be no bar on interprovincial movement of wheat.
