Islamabad: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) resumed its flight operation for the United Kingdom (UK) after more than five years amid the reports inaugural flight departed for Manchester Saturday.

A grand ceremony was held at Islamabad airport on the occasion which was attended by British High Commissioner Jane Merit , Aviation authorities. PIA management and other dignitaries. .

Addressing the ceremony in Islamabad, Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif said government had to suffer heavy loss due to ban on PIA. However national airlines has restored its standard.

He held restoration of PIA routes is crucial movement forward for Pakistan.

He added the operation will be extended to Birmingham and London as well.

Terming the cooperation from UK High Commissioner Jane Marriot a key cooperation defence minister said she played a positive and constructive role due to which restoration of flights could become possible.

He highlighted the government's intensive efforts for restoring the service which include a complete overhaul of safety procedures, pilot training, licensing, and plane maintenance to align with world-class aviation body standards.

The Defence Minister said these flights will offer affordable and time-saving travel for the approximately 1.4 million overseas Pakistanis residing in the UK and Europe.

He said the government is committed to restore and expand the national flag carrier's global network.

Khawaja Asif reaffirmed the government's resolve to make PIA a profitable institution.
