Islamabad: The government's Surplus Power Package has boosted electricity consumption in the industrial and agricultural sectors. According to the details shared by the Power Division, the two sectors consumed a massive 2,164 GWh of additional electricity in just three months, from December last year to February this year.

This accounts for twenty-three percent of all units sold to these sectors during this period, proving that the package has successfully triggered a strong growth in energy demand. Industries alone saved a total of 19.6 billion rupees while agricultural consumers saved 1.14 billion rupees, bringing cumulative financial relief to 20.83 billion rupees.

Under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's special initiative to provide relief and support to the country's industry and agriculture sectors, the surplus electricity package was introduced with lowest rate of 22.98 rupees per unit on incremental usage.
