Karachi: Growing number of epilepsy cases, particularly in the developing nation, is a big concern, which needs a serious focus of policymakers, said the noted neurophysician of the country, President of Epilepsy Foundation of Pakistan Professor Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui.

She was speaking at the second Neuro-Modulation Congress of Turkish speaking countries in Istanbul, Turkiye. Professor Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui was the only expert from Pakistan who attended this prestigious moot and represented her country.

She spoke on two sessions entitled 'Parkinson's disease: symptoms, diagnostic criteria and medical treatment, and 'Long term result of resective and disconnective surgery in epilepsy patients'.

Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui also shared her experiences about treating epilepsy patients in Pakistan. She said early diagnosis and consistent treatment play a crucial role in a sustainable treatment of epilepsy patients.

She expressed concern on costly medication and other treatment methods and stressed the need for a better training of young doctors in this field. She hoped that with pro-patient policies at the government level and increased level of awareness in society this disease could be controlled to a large extent.

Professor Sait OzTurk, president of Neuroscience Society of Turkey presented a shield to Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui in recognition of her valuable participation and scientific contribution in the second Neuro-Modulation Congress of Turkish speaking countries in Istanbul.
