Gujrat: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami North Punjab Dr. Tariq Saleem has announced that a grand protest demonstration will be held in Islamabad on Friday, May 15, against the sharp increase in petroleum prices. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman will lead the protest.Dr. Tariq Saleem expressed these views while addressing members of a gathering in Gujrat city. On the occasion, Chaudhry Ansar Mahmood Dhoul and other local leaders also addressed participants. He said the government has made life extremely difficult for ordinary citizens by imposing multiple taxes through electricity bills and petroleum products. According to him, nearly Rs. 19 trillion has been collected from the public over the last three years, while the salaried class alone paid more than Rs. 500 billion in taxes during the previous year. Dr. Tariq Saleem warned that if the government fails to reduce petroleum prices and completely abolish the petroleum levy, Jamaat-e-Islami will launch a nationwide wheel-jam and shutter-down strike on the instructions of the party leadership.Criticizing the ruling parties, he said that Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Pakistan People's Party represent a 'group of incompetents' who, despite controlling national resources, have failed to address public problems and are allegedly involved in corruption. Dr. Tariq Saleem highlighted the burden placed on the middle class, laborers, students, and motorcycle riders, stating that Pakistan has nearly 25 million motorcycles, and millions of riders are contributing hundreds of billions of rupees annually in fuel taxes. He claimed that the government is collecting around Rs. 117 per liter as a levy on petrol from consumers. He said Jamaat-e-Islami will continue to raise its voice strongly against what he described as economic oppression and injustice. Urging citizens to unite for their rights, he called on the public to support Jamaat-e-Islami's peaceful movement for economic relief and systemic change.
