High Court orders DC Rawalpindi to decide PTI plea for permission to hold public meeting as per law

Rawalpindi: Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench while wrapping up the petition in connection with permission for proposed PTI public meeting in Liaqat Bagh Rawalpindi on April 9 has directed Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi to decide the plea as per law.

PTI district general secretary Aqil Khan had filed this petition through Faisal Malik advocate.

The petition said PTI is peace loving and the largest political party of the country which is striving for supremacy of law and constitution in the country. Holding public meeting is constitutional right of PTI.

PTI had given application to DC Rawalpindi for permission to hold public meeting in Liaqat Bagh Rawalpindi on April 9. But no reply has been given on this written application.

It is therefore, requested to grant permission for holding public meeting besides directing the DC Rawalpindi to issue NOC for public meeting.

The counsel for the petitioner took the plea NOC has not been issued to PTI for holding public meeting in Liaqat Bagh while holding public meeting is legal right of PTI as per article 17 of the constitution. Articles 15, 16 and 19 of the constitution give full guarantee for freedom of expression.

DC office received the application of PTI but permission for public meeting has not been given so far.
