Section 144 imposed in RWP for 15 days

Rawalpindi: District administration Rawalpindi has imposed section 144 in Rawalpindi for 15 days.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi has issued notification in this regard under which section 144 will remain in force till April 20. This decision was taken on the recommendations of District Intelligence Committee (DIC).

It has been said in the 6-page notification issued by DC Rawalpindi that DIC made it clear in the report compiled in the meeting on April 4 in the perspective of prevailing situation that grave threats with reference to law and order situation are there in district Rawalpindi. Law and order situation can be worsened in any public gathering. Any untoward incident can pose threat to human lives. Therefore, section 144 is being enforced in Rawalpindi for 15 days. Under it there will be complete ban on assembly of 5 or more than five persons, protest, dharnas, public meetings, hate and provocative speeches and use of loudspeaker.

It has been made clear in the notification that legal proceedings will be initiated on violation of section 144. The display of arms (other than carried by law enforcement personnel) and 'objectionable/hate speeches' was banned as well. The DC also prohibited carrying 'weapons, spikes, laden batons, gulels, ball bearings, petrol bombs, improvised explosives or any other instrument that could potentially be used for violence'.
