Lahore: In a landmark achievement for Pakistan, a non-governmental football team sponsored by Alkhidmat Foundation has won the prestigious Norway Cup, raising the national flag high on an international stage and bringing immense pride to the nation.
The under-15 football team, backed by Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, defeated a strong Norwegian side in the final of the world's largest international youth football tournament. Their remarkable performance has been widely celebrated as a symbol of resilience, raw talent, and national pride.
President of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, Professor Dr. Hafeezur Rehman, and Secretary General Syed Waqas Jafri congratulated the young players, calling it a 'historic moment' for Pakistani youth and a hopeful sign for the future of football in the country.
Upon their arrival at Pakistan, the team received a hero's welcome. Alkhidmat officials, volunteers, and citizens gathered in large numbers to greet the players with garlands and applause, honouring their inspiring achievement on the international stage.
Speaking from Europe, Abdul Wahab Majeed, President of Alkhidmat Europe, highlighted the significance of the win. The Norway Cup is held annually with participation from over 35 countries. For the first time, a Pakistani football team has not only reached the final but won the championship, setting a remarkable precedent for aspiring young footballers,' he said.
The team, organised under the banner of Better Future Pakistan, comprises young footballers from local streets and communities - players who usually train in open grounds and neighbourhood alleys without access to advanced facilities, professional coaching, or institutional support.
The initiative was spearheaded by six Pakistani-Norwegian youth, committed to showcasing Pakistan's hidden football talent. 'This team never had access to structured academies or formal sponsorships,' Majeed added. 'It was their passion, perseverance, and determination, combined with support from Alkhidmat Europe and partner institutions, that propelled them to this historic success.'
Throughout the tournament, the Pakistani players impressed audiences with their skill, discipline, and sportsmanship, culminating in a commanding victory over the host nation in the final match.
Professor Dr. Hafeezur Rehman remarked, 'This victory is not just about a trophy; it is about hope, opportunity, and the incredible potential that lies within our youth. It is a reminder that with the right encouragement, even those from the most modest backgrounds can achieve greatness.'
The win has sparked widespread appreciation across Pakistan, with many hailing the team as a source of national inspiration and a testament to what grassroots sports initiatives can achieve when nurtured sincerely.
