Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought reply from the respective respondents in the matter of hike in the prices of mobile phone packages and weak signals within 15 days. Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar took up the petition for hearing Monday.
The counsel took the plea access to mobile internet and social media is basic right. This application relates to public interest under article 199. Constitutional guarantee in respect of protection of digital rights of the citizens has been sought in this petition. Federation, PTA and mobile companies have been made respondents on violation of basic rights.
It was also requested in the petition that internet closure and social media restrictions be made subservient to law.
It was also demanded that powers of PTA and telecom operators be kept within constitutional limits.
The court was also prayed that arbitrary suspension of internet and mobile service be declared illegal.
The court was also requested for protection of privacy, right of freedom of expression and access to information.
The petition said orders be issued for implementation of articles 4,9,14, 15,16,19 -A and 25 of the constitution.
The court while seeking reply from the concerned authorities adjourned the hearing of the case within 15 days.
