ISLAMABAD: The international community has appreciated Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah over his historic verdict on animal rights.

Islamabad High Court’s decision on Kanwan elephant was mentioned in a United States court decision wherein it was stated the court gave an extraordinary verdict of transportation of the animal to Cambodia.

Justice Athar Minallah gave verdict for transportation of elephant to a safe place on July 20, 2020. State of New York Court of Apples in its decision of June 14 mentioned Justice Minallah’s verdict and stated that a paragraph in this regard has been included where animals needs have been penned down.

In the decision, it was stated that animals should be given an environment according to their needs. An animal cannot be separated from its fellow animals contrary to natural environment, it stated, adding the animals also have rights that ought to be given to them. The decision further stated that it is right of animal to live in environment that is commensurate with their natural needs.
