Islamabad: Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam has said his country does not want war, but is prepared to thwart any aggression with full might if imposed on it.

He was briefing the media persons at the Embassy of Iran in Islamabad about recent developments in his country and in the region.

The Ambassador emphasized that the government of Iran and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei believe in dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the issues. However, he asserted Tehran's right to self-defence against any form of external aggression, conspiracies and nefarious designs of the enemy.

Reza Amiri Moghadam appreciated Pakistan's efforts to resolve the US-Iran standoff, saying that success of any such effort depends on the behavior of the opposite side.

He said Iran is thankful to the government, people and media of Pakistan for extending their full support to Tehran in the present difficult circumstances.

The Ambassador said Iran and Pakistan are in constant contact with each other and have closer mutual collaboration over the recent developments in the region.

Turning to recent violent protests in Iran, the Ambassador said the government in Tehran recognizes the right to protest of the people. He said the Supreme Leader of Iran also instructed the government to resolve the problems of the protestors and for the first time, representatives from the protesting mob were invited to the cabinet meeting to address their grievances.

Reza Amiri Moghadam said the Iranian government has taken significant steps to resolve the issues of the protestors and manage inflation while considering market stability.

Replying to a question, the Ambassador made it clear that the situation across Iran is normal now and peace has been restored.

Giving details of the damages inflicted during the violent protest across Iran, the Ambassador said more than three thousand one hundred people including the security forces personnel lost their lives during the protests.

He said the protesting mob damaged and torched ambulances, busses, banks, government installations, educational institutions, business centers and vehicles. However, the situation is now under control.

The Ambassador clarified that those arrested during the violent protests were funded and abetted from abroad. However, they will be preceded in the courts in accordance with the Iranian law.

Reza Amiri Moghadam reaffirmed that the government and people of Iran would stand resolute to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
