Ishaq Dar chairs follow-up meeting to continue deliberations on tax policy proposals for the forthcoming budget

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a follow-up meeting of the committee constituted by the Prime Minister, to continue deliberations on tax policy proposals for the forthcoming budget.

The Committee reviewed progress on various proposals and emphasized the need for balanced, growth-oriented measures aimed at broadening the tax base, enhancing revenue generation, and promoting investment and economic growth.

The Committee reiterated the priority for balanced and growth-oriented measures that enhance revenue generation while safeguarding compliant taxpayers from additional tax burden.

The meeting was attended by Minister Economic Affairs Division Senator Ahad Khan Cheema, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, MoS on Finance and Railways, Secretary Finance, Chairman FBR, and senior officials from relevant ministries.

Meanwhile in a separate statement issued on X, Ishaq Dar said that he was pleased to welcome Pakistan's Ambassadors posted in the GCC and the region at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Regional Envoys' Conference being held in Islamabad from 14-18 May 2026.

Ishaq Dar said that at a time of evolving regional and global dynamics, Pakistan remains committed to proactive diplomacy, stronger strategic partnerships, enhanced economic cooperation with our brotherly countries, and continued efforts for regional peace and stability.

'I stressed the importance of focused and productive deliberations during the Conference and directed our envoys to present practical recommendations to further advance Pakistan's diplomatic and economic priorities in the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with our envoys remain, at the forefront of promoting Pakistan's interests abroad and reinforcing the country's role as a constructive partner for regional peace, connectivity, and shared prosperity' Ishaq Dar said.
