Israel stops aid workers from entering Gaza

Gaza: Israel stated that it has stopped foreign medical and humanitarian staff from entering Gaza. The move follows orders telling their organisations to stop operations unless they register staff details with Israeli authorities.

Two aid sources told media that a number of international non-governmental organisations (NGO) that were ordered to halt their work fear a renewed humanitarian crisis if medical and relief services do not reach war-shattered Gaza. The organisations are also reviewing whether to submit their staff data to the Israeli authorities.

Israel's Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, which oversees the registration process, said the measures aim to stop Palestinian armed groups from diverting aid. Aid organisations, however, say sharing staff information carries serious risks, noting that hundreds of aid workers have been killed or injured during the two-year Gaza war.

Israel has provided little evidence that aid has been diverted in the Palestinian territory, a claim that was challenged in an analysis by the US government.
