Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rahman visited the residence of renowned journalist and intellectual Altaf Hassan Qureshi to offer condolences to the bereaved family following his passing.
During the visit, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief expressed sympathy with the late writer's son Kamran Hassan Altaf and nephews Tayyab Ejaz and Zaki Ejaz, and prayed for the departed soul. Jamaat-e-Islami Information Secretary Shakil Ahmed Turabi also accompanied him.
Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman termed Altaf Hassan Qureshi's death a major loss to journalism and the intellectual sphere of the country. He said the veteran writer had devoted his entire life to promoting truthful, courageous and nationally conscious journalism.
He described the late journalist as a strong advocate of principled and ideological journalism who consistently adopted clear and bold positions on national and Muslim world issues.
The JI Emir said Altaf Hassan Qureshi played a significant role in raising national awareness, promoting the ideology of Pakistan and highlighting issues faced by the Muslim Ummah through his writings. 'His work will continue to guide younger generations, and his contributions to journalism will always be remembered,' he added.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman further said the late journalist's scholarly and intellectual contributions were a valuable national asset, adding that the void created by his death would not be easily filled. He also expressed hope that Altaf Hassan Qureshi's journalistic and ideological mission would continue in the future.
