JI demands immediate local polls in KP

Peshawar: Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (JI KP) on Tuesday called for the immediate holding of local government elections across the province under the 2013 Local Government Act and Rules, saying the absence of functional local bodies has deprived residents of basic services at the grassroots level. The demand was made during a joint meeting of the party's provincial leaders at Markazi Islami Peshawar, chaired by Emir JI KP South Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan. The meeting was attended by Emir JI KP Central Abdul Wasi, Emir JI KP North Inayatullah Khan, and Emir JI KP Hazara Abdul Razzaq Abbasi.Participants said the current local government system had proven to be 'the most failed system in history' and stressed that the restoration of the district system was now an urgent necessity. The meeting also expressed concern over worsening insecurity, particularly in the southern districts, and urged the federal and provincial governments to take serious practical steps to restore peace and order.Leaders further voiced concern over recent tensions with neighboring Afghanistan, calling on Afghan authorities to address Pakistan's security concerns and halt cross-border infiltration. They urged senior officials of both countries to resolve tensions through meaningful dialogue, noting that peaceful relations were in the vital interest of both peoples.
