Karachi: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Karachi held funeral prayers in absentia for JI Pakistan Secretary General, Ameerul Azeem, at the Alkhidmat Headquarters in Karachi, here on Thursday.

The prayers were led by JI Karachi Secretary Taufiquddin Siddiqui and attended by workers and office-bearers of Idara Noor-e-Haq and Alkhidmat.

Speaking on the occasion, Siddiqui paid rich tribute to the late leader's religious, organisational, political, social and public services. He said Ameerul Azeem had devoted his entire life to the struggle for the establishment of Islam and remained deeply committed to the party and its mission until his last breath.

He prayed that Allah accept the deceased's lifelong services, grant him the highest ranks in the hereafter, and bless his family, relatives and party workers with patience and fortitude.

Meanwhile, JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar postponed a scheduled press conference on Thursday and left for Lahore immediately to attend the funeral prayers held at Mansoorah.

He also met the bereaved family and offered his condolences.

Separately, JI Karachi deputy chiefs Saifuddin Advocate, Muslim Parvez, Raja Arif Sultan and Dr Wasee Shakir, along with several deputy secretaries, special assistants and information office-bearers, expressed profound grief over the party leader's demise.

In their condolence messages, they prayed for the departed soul, expressed sympathies with the bereaved family, and paid tribute to Ameerul Azeem's contributions to the party's organisational, social, political and public service.
