Karachi: A judicial commission headed by Justice Umar Sial has conducted detailed questioning of SSP Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Samiullah Soomro over various aspects of the investigation into the Mir Raza case.

During the proceedings, the commission raised questions regarding the geofencing report, CCTV footage, guest house records and investigations involving suspected individuals.

SSP Samiullah Soomro told the commission that a letter seeking geofencing data had been sent on July 31, but he was unaware whether the report had subsequently been received.

The commission questioned why further investigation was not conducted into vehicles and individuals visible in CCTV footage. Questions were also raised regarding the guest house's DVR and the memorandum prepared for its seizure.

Jibran Nasir told the commission that three individuals had fled after Mir Raza's photograph was shown at the guest house, but the family members were not called to identify them.

The commission also questioned whether sufficient investigation had been conducted into the guest house and possible suspects.

According to SSP Soomro, the motive for the killing could not be established during six days of investigation. The commission observed that the investigation appeared to have remained focused primarily on financial matters.

Jibran Nasir argued that the investigation had focused on determining whether Mir Raza's death was a murder or suicide rather than establishing the motive for the killing. He also referred to Dr Usama's report and an alleged campaign against Mir Raza's family.

The commission further questioned the presence of SSP Samiullah Soomro during a meeting with Dr Usama at the Chief Minister's House.
