Islamabad: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan will hold five meetings from 12 to 15 January to consider the confirmation of 40 Additional Judges across the country's five high courts. The meetings will be chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi.
The distribution of judges under consideration for confirmation is as follows:
Islamabad High Court: 3 judges
Balochistan High Court: 2 judges
Sindh High Court: 12 judges
Peshawar High Court: 10 judges
Lahore High Court: 13 judges
The schedule for consideration is:
12 January: Islamabad High Court judges Justice Azam Khan, Justice Muhammad Asif, Justice Inam Amin Minhas, and Balochistan High Court judges Justice Ayub Khan, Justice Najmuddin Mengal.
13 January: Sindh High Court judges Justice Miran Muhammad Shah, Justice Tasleem Sultana, Justice Riyazat Ali Sahar, Justice Hasan Akbar, Justice Khalid Shahani, Justice Abdul Hameed Bhurgi, Justice Fayyaz ul Hasan, Justice Jan Junejo, Justice Nasir Bhanbouro, Justice Ali Haider, Justice Usman Ali, Justice Jafar Raza. During this meeting, extension of tenure for Sindh High Court constitutional benches will also be considered.
14 January: Peshawar High Court judges Justice Tariq Afridi, Justice Abdul Fayyaz, Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Inamullah, Justice Subghatullah, Justice Salahuddin, Justice Sadiq Ali, Justice Mudassir Amir, Justice Aurangzeb, Justice Jawad Ihsan.
15 January: Lahore High Court judges Justice Hasan Nawaz, Justice Waqar Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar, Justice Ahsan Raza, Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Owais Khalid, Justice Sultan Mehmood, Justice Raja Ghazanfar, Justice Tanveer Sheikh, Justice Tariq Bajwa, Justice Abher Gul.
In parallel, a meeting of the Judicial Commission has been summoned on 12 January at the Supreme Court to set the framework for judicial appointments under the 27th Amendment, covering the Federal Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and High Courts.
The agenda includes interviews of judicial candidates before appointments, as mentioned in Article 175A(4), although the Judicial Commission Rules 2025 do not provide a detailed procedure for interviews. Under Rule 15(4) of the Judicial Commission, any ambiguity in the matters before the commission will be resolved by a two-thirds majority of the total members.
