Karachi no more safe city for lives, property, as Gul Plaza tragedy exposed PPP: Monem Zafar Khan

Karachi: Ameer Jamaat-e-islami (JI) Karachi Monem Zafar Khan has said that even after two weeks, the remains of victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy have not been fully handed over to their families, exposing the criminal negligence and corruption of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government. The JI leader expressed these views while addressing a press conference held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi Headquarters, on Saturday.Speaking on the occasion, he said that 17 to 18 funerals were offered in Karachi just a day earlier, while authorities had said that 87 people lost their lives in the incident. So far, only 42 bodies and remains have been identified and handed over through DNA testing, reflecting the failure of state institutions.Monem Zafar said Karachi has become the most unsafe city, where neither life nor property is protected, and one tragedy follows another. He stated that the Gul Plaza incident has completely exposed PPP's corruption, mismanagement, and incompetence, proving that the provin cial government has failed to fulfill its responsibilities. The JI Karachi chief said that instead of accepting responsibility, Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah are making excuses and lack the moral courage to resign. He said traders watched their businesses burn while families waited helplessly for their loved ones, but the government didn't take any drastic step to save lives and possessions. The government only announced multi-billion rupee packages with no visible work on ground, he said while commenting over the fresh volley of claims by the government. He said repeated announcements regarding Karachi Transformation Plan, infrastructure development, PSD funds, and mega projects have proven to be nothing more than fraud and deception, as projects continue to miss deadlines. He added that load-shedding of up to 18 hours, rising street crime, unchecked heavy traffic, and 450 traffic accidents in January alone reflect total governance failure.Monem Zafar announced that JI will hold a massive 'Jeene Do Karachi' march on February 1 at Shahrah-e-Faisal, under the leadership of JI Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, where citizens will demonstrate their public strength and future course of action will be announced. He said over 100 awareness camps have already been set up across the city, and the trader community has also announced its support for the march. He reiterated his demand for the immediate resignation of the mayor, warning that if he does not step down, JI will initiate a no-confidence movement by contacting opposition parties in the City Council to rid Karachi of incompetent rulers.JI Karachi Spokesperson Zahid Askari and his deputy Sohaib Ahmed flanked the JI leader at the press conference.
