Birmingham: The Kashmir struggle against Indian occupation was the central theme of a reception dinner organised by Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK in Birmingham in honour of Dr. Riaz Ahmed, former President of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) and former President of Al-Khidmat Foundation AJK, and Engineer Abdul Hameed, retired Secretary to the Government of AJK and Vice President of Al-Khidmat Foundation AJK.The event was chaired by Raja Fahim Kayani, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK and All Parties International Kashmir Coordination Committee. Muhammad Ghalib, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir Europe, also addressed the gathering.Dr. Riaz Ahmed called upon the international community to take effective steps to address human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He demanded the immediate release of Kashmiri political prisoners and abolition of black laws used against political activists.Referring to the Kunan-Poshpora mass rape allegations of 1991, Dr Riaz said that around 100 women we re reported to have been subjected to sexual violence, yet no army personnel has been brought to trial. He called for justice and accountability.Engineer Abdul Hameed highlighted reports of mass and unmarked graves, fake encounters and enforced disappearances, calling for independent international investigations and accountability for those responsible.Muhammad Ghalib emphasised the need to strengthen the Kashmir campaign across Europe and engage governments, parliamentarians and human rights organisations.Fahim Kayani said Kashmiris in the UK and Europe must continue their peaceful political and diplomatic struggle and ensure that Kashmir remains on the international agenda.Cllr Shehryar Kayani, Maulana Sarfraz Madani, Mufti Abdul Majeed Nadeem, Vice President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, and Ch Ikram ul Haq President Tehreek e Kashmir Birmingham were among the guests who attended the reception.Speakers reaffirmed their commitment to the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir an d called upon the international community to play its role in securing justice, fundamental rights and a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
