KP Secretary Energy & Power highlighted foreign investment as key for hydropower development, with the 470 MW Lower Spat Gah


project set to generate Rs. 3 billion annually
Peshawar: Secretary Energy and Power KP Mohammad Zubair Khan has declared the foreign investment as a milestone in coming days for the development of energy sector in province and said that natural resources of hydropower found in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are a valuable treasure here, the exploitation of which will not only save the country from the current energy crisis but also province will also get billions of rupees annually from energy projects.



He expressed these views while addressing a meeting organized by the representatives of Korean Hydro and Nuclear Power Company regarding the progress of the 470 MW Lower Spat Gah Power Project in Kohistan district with the cooperation of KHNP, a state-owned company working in the energy sector of South Korea, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government. Additional Secretary Power Abdul Haseeb, Senior Chief Planning Officer Shahnawaz Khan, Chief Engineer Khuram Durani, Senior Planning Officer Luqman Hakeem and Planning Officer Muhammad Waqqas ahmed were also present in the meeting.



Moreover, while official giving a briefing in the meeting, it was explained that under the public-private partnership, the Korean company and the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will produce 470 megawatts electricity from the Lower Spat Gah hydropower project. The province will annually earnedRs. 3 billion through this project, he added.



Furthermore, the project will be completed in 5 years, the largest hydropower project in the recent history of the province. In the meeting, the problems faced at the federal level with NEPRA including IGCEP plan and NTDC were discussed. Similarly, obstacles in issuing generation license for the project and other problems were discussed with the federal government. Various options were also discussed to be taken up at the provincial level.



On this occasion, Secretary Energy and Power Mohammad Zubair Khan assured the Korean investor delegation that they will do their best to bring out the problem by highlighting the problems facing the province for the development of the province at higher forums.
