LHC declares Snooker club business legal

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has declared Snooker club business legal ' The court remarked running Snooker club is legal and recreational activity and no law imposes ban on it.

The court nullified the trial court decision ordering closure of the snooker club. Justice Jawad Zafar of LHC issued 5-page written decision on the appeal plea of citizen Muhammad Rashid.

It has been said in the written decision every citizen has right to do legal business under the constitution. Billiards and Snooker games are not unethical and nor are they prohibited under law.

The business running under legal parameters can not be shut down for indefinite period on vague complaint.

It has been said in the decision according to the petitioner he ran snooker club in Sargodha. The recreation of playing billiard game was provided to the citizens through the club. However an opposing party filed application with area magistrate to get shut his snooker club. It was said therein that the club remains open day in day out and it causes noise.

The written decision said banning the business fully is misuse of judicial powers. Ruckus and operating hours can be regulated. Complete shutdown was not necessary.

The trial court did not make correct interpretation of laws.

Court declares null and void the trial court decision for shutting down the snooker club. The petitioner can reopen snooker club by observing all legal requirements.
