LHC seeks reply on petition seeking transparent investigation , registration of case against information minister Punjab in Bhatti gate tragedy

Lahore: The petition seeking registration of case against information minister of Punjab, transparent investigation into the incident and action against the responsible officers in the case of death of mother and daughter after falling into manhole near Bhati gate in Lahore came up for hearing in Lahore High Court .

Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the respondents to file reply till March 03.

Justice Syed Shahbaz Rizvi of LHC took up the case for hearing Tuesday.

Punjab government, LDA and other respective institutions have been made respondents.

The counsel for the petitioner took the plea leaving the manhole open in thickly populated area is a gross negligence. Government took show case measures instead of taking action against the real responsible persons.

The counsel told the court lids of over 10000 manholes are stolen every year in Lahore. Despite it the effective steps are not being taken. Registration of case by police under section 322 is not sufficient because death of mother and daughter is
not merely accident but it is outcome of clear criminal negligence.

It was alleged in the petition the government representatives and police harassed aggrieved family.

The counsel demanded Judicial Commission (JC) be constituted to bring to light real facts and fixation of compensation for legal heirs.

Compensation amounting to Rs 25 crore be recovered from guilty officers and be given to aggrieved family.

The counsel also requested the court to register case against information minister Punjab, deputy commissioner Lahore and other relevant persons for spreading wrong information.
