Karachi: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh, Kashif Saeed Shaikh, said that May 12, 2007, is the darkest day in Pakistan's history - a day when intoxicated with power, terrorists unleashed a bloodbath in Karachi, brutally killing more than 50 innocent people. This savagery can never be forgotten by history or the nation.In a statement issued on Monday, Kashif Saeed Shaikh expressed regret that even after 18 years, those responsible for the May 12 tragedy in Karachi remain outside the clutches of the law. The blood spilled in the pursuit of justice still cries out for it. However, the killers must remember that God's justice may be silent, but it is certain. One may hide in this world, but cannot escape the divine court or a disgraceful end.Kashif Saeed Shaikh said if those responsible for the May 12 carnage had been given exemplary punishment and the martyrs had received justice, then subsequent incidents like the burning of lawyers alive in Tahir Plaza, the Baldia factory tragedy, the killing of journalist Wali Khan Babar, and the brutal murder of Orangi Town social activist Perween Rahman might not have happened.The provincial leader also highlighted the unfortunate fact that although the then Chief Justice of Pakistan was reinstated due to the lawyers' movement, he failed to provide justice to the ordinary citizens, political workers, and lawyers who came to receive him and were killed in the process. Despite the identities of the killers being known, they were not arrested.Even the Pakistan People's Party, in power in Sindh for the last 17 years, has failed to bring the perpetrators of May 12 to justice. The innocent people killed on that tragic day must be given justice. No matter how powerful the accused are, they must be brought before the court of law.
