Islamabad: Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party Acting President Mehmood Ahmed Saghar has urged the Government of Pakistan to use its growing diplomatic influence to safeguard the fundamental rights and religious freedoms of Kashmiris amid an intensifying crackdown in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.In separate letters to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Mehmood Ahned Saghar felicitated Pakistan's leadership on the first anniversary of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, calling it a historic battle that 'compelled an enemy to retreat in utter humiliation' and earned Pakistan global recognition as an 'invincible, mature and responsible nuclear power.' He said the Marka-e-Haq reflected Pakistan's unwavering resolve to defend its ideological and geographical frontiers and sent a clear message that the country 'could neither be coerced nor intimidated.'Mehmood Ahmed Saghar alleged that India had used the Pahalgam incident as a pretext to launch attacks on Pak istan and intensify repression in Kashmir. He said fundamental rights, including freedom of speech, peaceful protest and assembly, continue to be severely curtailed, while Kashmiri leaders and women activists remain under prolonged detention under draconian laws.Saghar said New Delhi is pursuing demographic engineering and systematically suppressing the political and religious rights of Kashmiris to erase their identity. 'The relentless attempts to erase the political, cultural, and religious identity of the Kashmiris have further aggravated the situation,' he wrote.Saghar said the closure of religious and educational institutions was eroding Kashmiris' ability to practice their faith and preserve their heritage. He also criticized the international community's 'inadequate response,' saying the absence of meaningful engagement had fostered impunity and deepened political and humanitarian insecurity in the region.Urging Pakistan to act, he requested Islamabad to raise the issue at forums including the OI C, the United Nations and its affiliated bodies, in line with international law and UN resolutions. 'While acknowledging Pakistan's continued support to Kashmiris' just cause, we sincerely hope that the Government of Pakistan under your esteemed leadership will give urgent consideration to this important matter and help promote peace, justice, and the protection of human rights in the region,' Saghar wrote.
