Mental Health Essential for Human Well-being, Social Harmony and Stability: Ayaz Sadiq

Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has described mental health as fundamental to human well-being and the development of a healthy, harmonious and stable society.

In his message on World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10, he stressed the need to raise public awareness and eliminate the social stigma associated with psychological issues.

The speaker said mental health challenges could affect people of all ages and backgrounds, adding that timely diagnosis and effective treatment were increasingly important.

He emphasised that mental health conditions should be recognised as serious health concerns rather than signs of weakness. He called for treating affected individuals with compassion, respect and understanding.

Ayaz Sadiq highlighted the importance of protecting the mental well-being of children and young people, urging families, educational institutions and communities to support those facing psychological challenges.

He called for coordinated efforts by the government, Parliament, healthcare professionals and civil society to improve awareness, expand access to quality mental health services and establish effective support systems.

The speaker reaffirmed that Parliament would continue to play its constitutional role in promoting public welfare, social inclusion and the protection of citizens' fundamental rights.
