Modern technology revolutionizing medical treatment for doctors & patients: Principal LGH Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal

Lahore: Rapid advancement of modern medical technology is transforming healthcare by making treatments safer, more effective and significantly less painful for patients.Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal expressed these views while addressing a one-day workshop on advanced urological procedures, organized by Urology Department at Lahore General Hospital. On the occasion, Prof. Farooq Afzal announced that LGH is set to formally introduce the state-of-the-art Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) technique for the treatment of kidney stones. He said that RIRS would greatly reduce recovery time, enabling most patients to be discharged within 24 hours. Unlike traditional surgeries, the technique allows kidney stone removal without any surgical incision, using advanced laser and endoscopic technology.The workshop was held under the supervision of Associate Professor of Urology Dr. Kamran Zaidi and included hands-on training sessions for urologists. Renowned master trai ners Dr. Fazal Niazi, Dr. Farrukh Naveed, Dr. Hafiz Tariq Ali and Dr. Imran Saliana provided detailed guidance on the use of modern endoscopic equipment and laser-based stone removal techniques. Senior medical professionals attended the event, including MS Prof. Faryad Hussain, Prof. Nazir Ahmed, Prof. Khizar Hayat Gondal, Prof. Shehzad Anwar, Prof. Khalid Hussain and Prof. Tahir Bashir. Consultants and postgraduate residents from across the country praised the workshop, describing it as a major milestone for public-sector urology services in Pakistan.Prof. Farooq Afzal said, 'We are utilizing all available resources to provide quality medical facilities to the public, in line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's Health Vision'. He added that a comprehensive strategy has been put in place to upgrade every department of LGH into a state-of-the-art unit, the positive outcomes of which will soon be visible to the public. Medical experts highlighted that the RIRS technique is increasingly preferred worldwide due to its minimal pain, reduced blood loss and faster return to normal daily activities when compared with conventional open surgical procedures.
