Karachi: Jamaat-e-islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan on Friday inaugurated a three-day book exchange camp in Liaquatabad and also visited another camp at UP Mor in North Karachi as the JI has intensified its citywide ‘Parho Parhao’ (Read and Educate) campaign, establishing book exchange camps in multiple districts to support students amid rising education costs.
Several camps have already been set up where students and parents are obtaining primary and secondary-level textbooks. The initiative has drawn a strong public response, with many appreciating the effort to ease the financial burden of education.
Speaking to the media while inaugurating the camp, Monem Zafar highlighted the growing challenges faced by families in educating their children due to inflation.
‘Education is the foundation of any nation’s progress. Without providing quality education to our children, we cannot build a strong and self-reliant society,’ he said.
At the Liaquatabad camp, organisers have arranged daily prize draws
distributing free school bags, along with a subsidised stall offering school shoes at affordable rates.
Monem Zafar urged philanthropists to contribute to the initiative by donating books, school bags or financial assistance. ‘This is an investment in the future of our next generation,’ he said, stressing that the campaign aimed to ensure access to education for every child regardless of background.
Criticising the provincial government, he said the deteriorating state of education in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, reflected administrative failure, with many public schools in poor condition and reforms limited to ‘paper claims’. He called on party workers to take the campaign door-to-door to ensure no child remained deprived of education.
