Karachi: Jamaat-e-islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan has said that the state of affairs at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) reflects a national tragedy and demanded the federal government to intervene.Monem Zafar, accompanied by Opposition Leader KMC Saifuddin Advocate, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr. Fawad Ahmed and City Councillor Taimur Ahmed, visited the university and met Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the institution's acute financial and administrative challenges.University officials and faculty representatives informed the delegation that due to the federal government's inattention, a bailout package remains pending, resulting in a severe financial crisis that has put the future of thousands of students at risk.They highlighted the lack of basic facilities, dilapidated buildings due to the absence of a development budget.They also pointed to the poor condition of the univers ity grounds and the absence of proper carpeting of surrounding roads.Speaking on the occasion, Monem Zafar said it was alarming that the country's only university dedicated to the national language was facing such neglect.He urged the federal government and relevant authorities, particularly the education minister, to take immediate notice of the situation and adopt urgent, practical measures to address the crisis.During the visit, preliminary discussions were also held on welfare initiatives, including improvement of roads, provision of transport facilities for students, and development of the university's infrastructure.
