Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Munim Zafar Khan, along with a delegation, called on Director General NADRA Sindh, Amir Ali Khan, at the authority's headquarters in Karachi, on Wednesday, demanding removal of red tape culture. On the occasion, a detailed memorandum highlighting citizens' grievances and proposed reforms was also presented to the DG NADRA. The DG assured the JI delegation that all the necessary actions would be taken to address the issues highlighted by the party leadership.JI Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan expressed serious concerns over the difficulties faced by citizens at NADRA mega centers, including long queues, eleventh hour demands for unnecessary documents, mistreatment of applicants, and lack of new mega centers in the city.Highlighting the cumbersome process and unnecessary demands made by staffers at NADRA centres, he stressed that obtaining a CNIC is the right of every citizen, and NADRA must simplify the process rather than creating hurdles.Munim Zafar Khan not ed that thousands of Karachiites approach JI's Public Aid Secretariat daily regarding NADRA-related issues as the JI was the single largest party in the mega city that actively raises public concerns. With 9 town chairmen, 85 UC chairmen, and hundreds of councilors, we demand that NADRA mobile vans be deployed across all towns to ease citizens' difficulties,' he added.Furthermore, the memorandum highlighted that applicants are harassed at the centres, despite having complete documents; many are sent back over unnecessary requirements.Renewal cases are delayed, and applicants are asked for proof dating back to 1980, against NADRA's own SOPs, he said.If one family member's CNIC is blocked, renewal of others' cards is also halted, which is unlawful, he said, adding that first-time CNIC applicants are made to run from counter to counter, even when they have proper documents.Thousands of cases remain pending under 'PR,' 'Validation,' 'IB,' or 'DLC' markings without resolution, he said, adding that applica nts face humiliating treatment at Zonal Boards and are given dates months away.He further said that citizens who have permanently shifted to Karachi face unnecessary hurdles in domicile and code issuance despite NADRA SOPs.'The JI does not support foreigners obtaining CNICs. Our only demand is that genuine Pakistanis with required documents must not be denied their identity cards,' the memorandum read. The delegation included JI Karachi Vice Ameer and KMC Opposition Leader, Saifuddin Advocate, Secretary Public Aid Committee Najeeb Ayoubi, and In-charge NADRA Cell Public Aid, Tahir Ameer-ul-Hasan.
