Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs was informed that 140 complaints concerning phishing and other cyber-enabled financial frauds were referred to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) during the financial year 2025-26.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of MNA Rana Iradat Sharif Khan in Committee Room No. 7 of Parliament House.
According to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the 140 complaints included 80 cases of cyber financial fraud, 17 of cyberbullying, 29 of cyber harassment, six of visa fraud, five of identity theft and three general complaints.
A representative of the NCCIA informed the committee that the agency had adopted a multi-dimensional approach to combating cybercrime, including investigation, digital forensics, coordination with relevant institutions and public awareness.
The NCCIA has also established a web-based Complaints Management Unit for receiving and processing complaints.
Citizens can submit complaints through the Email Desk, online complaints portal, in person at any of the 15 Cyber Crime Reporting Centres across the country or at NCCIA Headquarters, as well as through postal correspondence.
The committee was also briefed by the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) on measures taken to provide relief to complainants whose grievances were received through the Prime Minister's Public Affairs and Grievances Wing.
The BISP representative said complaints were processed according to the nature of each case and the eligibility status of the complainants.
The National Highway Authority briefed the committee on operations of the toll plaza on the Okara-Patoki section, particularly road maintenance and the overall condition of the road infrastructure.
The Higher Education Commission informed the committee that it had received 18 complaints concerning financial assistance and scholarships for higher studies and 19 complaints regarding distribution of laptops under the Prime Minister's Youth Laptop Scheme.
The committee was informed that the complaints had been addressed by the concerned authorities in accordance with the prescribed eligibility criteria. HEC also clarified that the government does not provide financial assistance for higher studies on an individual basis.
The committee offered Fateha for the departed soul of former member Ch. Muhammad Bashir Virk and paid tribute to his services to Parliament and his constituency.
The meeting was attended by several MNAs, including Hameed Hussain, along with senior officials from NCCIA, BISP, HEC, NHA and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
