Islamabad: PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif has nominated Dr Najeeb Naqi , senior leader of Azad Kashmir and former provincial minister as candidate for the officer of president of Azad Kashmir.

The senior leadership of PML-N and Mian Nawaz Sharif approved the name of Dr Najib Naqi after party consultations.

Dr Najib Naqib is a prominent political figure in the political landscape of Azad Kashmir. He has discharged obligations as minister in different key ministries .

It is pertinent to mention here Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) had issued the formal schedule for election of new president of Azad Kashmir a day before. Under this schedule election for new president will take place on September 24, 2026.

Nomination papers for election of Azad Kashmir president will be filed on September 19, 2026. On the same scrutiny process will be completed. The candidates can withdraw their papers till September 23.
