Nahid Islam, candidate of 11-party alliance for Dhaka-11 constituency files petition seeking suspension of candidacy of BNP candidate

Dhaka: Nahid Islam, the candidate of the 11-party alliance for Dhaka-11 constituency and convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has filed a writ petition seeking the suspension of the candidacy of BNP nominated candidate Dr. MA Qayyum.

The writ petition was filed with the relevant branch of the High Court on Monday (February 2). Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa and Advocate Ali Azgar Sharifi are the lawyers representing Nahid Islam.

Nahid Islam’s lawyers challenged the validity of Dr. MA Qayyum’s candidacy, alleging dual citizenship and concealment of information. Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa said that the High Court will hear the writ petition this week.

After sorting the nomination papers at the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Segunbagicha in the capital, the returning officer declared MA Qayyum’s nomination valid on January 3. MA Qayyum, the BNP nominee for Dhaka-11 constituency, is the party’s microfinance secretary.
