Islamabad: 12 PTI workers have been awarded sentence in November 26 protest case.
Hearing of cases registered in connection with November 26 protest was held in district and sessions courts Islamabad.
2 courts announced sentence to PTI workers under Peaceful Assembly and Public Order (PAPO) act 2024.
Trial court has awarded sentence to the accused persons 66 months in prison .
The court while announcing judgment in three cases awarded punishment to 12 workers while one worker was acquitted.
According to decision Judicial magistrate Ahmad Shahzad Gondal announced decision in two cases related to police station RAMNA while judicial magistrate Mureed Abbas announced decision in police station Tarnol case.
During the hearing of the case Special Public Prosecutor Muhammad Usman Rana said in his arguments November 26 protest does not fall under peaceful protest. Protest was neither just under constitution nor was it in accordance with international law. The state took just and legal steps.
Special Public Prosecutor further said right to peaceful protest is not unconditional. Under constitution, ICCPR and ECHR such gathering enjoys no protection. November 26 protest was to get accept ultra constitutional demands.
