Islamabad: Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf has described the increasing state sponsored persecution of Muslims and other minorities in India as alarming.

Talking to British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriot in Islamabad, he said Pakistan has taken significant steps to promote interfaith harmony by increasing the participation of minorities in all sectors.

He said we are very proud of our rich traditions and cultural heritage, where we have immense respect for religious and faith-based diversity.

The British High Commissioner said Pakistan and the UK can benefit from each other's experiences in promoting interfaith harmony. She said we can offer exchange programs and scholarships in the UK for madrassa graduates.

Meanwhile Ms. Jane Marriott, accompanied by Senior Governance Adviser Matt Clancy, called on the Minister of State for Finance and Railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani, on Friday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance economic cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK).

Bilal Azhar Kayani highlighted that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's government is focused on transforming economic stability into sustainable economic development. He further stated that efforts are underway to modernize Pakistan Railways and transform it into a dynamic institution offering improved and modern facilities to the public.

Ms. Jane Marriott appreciated the government's reform and development initiatives. Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement and continue working together to promote shared economic and development objectives.
