Islamabad: The Power Division has formally approached National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to abolish application fees and remove licensing requirements for solar consumers with systems of 25 kilowatts and below.
The move comes on the direction of Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, aiming to facilitate residential solar adoption and remove regulatory hurdles.
Officials noted that under the 2015 distributed generation regulations, systems up to 25 kW were exempt from licensing and fees, with applications processed directly by distribution companies. However, the new Prosumer Regulations centralize approvals with NEPRA and impose fees even on small users.
The Power Division warned that the current framework could slow the growth of renewable energy and urged a return to the earlier, more consumer-friendly system.
