Islamabad: Pakistan's top constitutional authorities have renewed their strong support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on the occasion of Kashmir Right to Self-Determination Day, observed on January 5, calling the Kashmir dispute the unfinished agenda of the partition of the subcontinent and stressing that its resolution in accordance with United Nations resolutions is essential for lasting regional peace.
In a message issued on the occasion, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that granting the Kashmiri people their fundamental and inalienable right to self-determination is both a moral and legal obligation of the international community. He emphasized that a just and durable resolution of the Kashmir issue, in line with UN Security Council resolutions, is indispensable for sustainable peace in South Asia.
Recalling the UN Security Council resolution of January 5, 1949, the Speaker noted that it guaranteed the people of Jammu and Kashmir the right to decide their future through a free and impartial plebiscite, a commitment that remains unfulfilled even after more than seven decades. He strongly condemned what he described as grave and systematic human rights violations by Indian forces in the occupied territory, including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, restrictions on fundamental freedoms, and attempts to alter the region's demographic structure, terming these acts blatant violations of international law.
Reaffirming Pakistan's stance, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan would continue to extend moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people and would remain their voice at regional and international forums. He urged the international community to take immediate notice of the ongoing human rights abuses and to take concrete steps to ensure the implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir.
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, in his separate message, said that the Kashmiri freedom struggle is a shining example of unmatched sacrifices, perseverance, and resilience that deserves global recognition. He reiterated that a just resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions is vital for peace and stability in South Asia, adding that Pakistan's Parliament stands in complete solidarity with the Kashmiri people.
