Islamabad: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the U. S. Charg© d'Affaires in Islamabad and lodged a strong demarche over what Pakistan described as factually incorrect remarks by the U. S. Ambassador to India regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan strongly condemned and categorically rejected the characterisation of Jammu and Kashmir as a 'part of India', the Foreign Office said.

It underscored that Jammu and Kashmir was an internationally recognised disputed territory whose final disposition remained to be determined in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The Foreign Office highlighted that the U. S. ambassador's statement contradicted the longstanding and well-documented position of the United States on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and was also inconsistent with the U. S. commitment to international law and the UN Charter.

While appreciating President Donald Trump's offer to mediate between Pakistan and India to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in the aftermath of Marka-e-Haq, Pakistan urged the U. S. side to ensure that its public statements remained consistent with the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The demarche was lodged at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 19.
