Karachi: A petition has been filed in the Karachi District and Sessions Court against the recently released Bollywood film Dhurandhar over its alleged anti-Pakistan content.
The film, featuring Sanjay Dutt, Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna and others in lead roles, was released on December 5, 2025, and has drawn criticism from various quarters for allegedly promoting anti-Pakistan themes.
The petitioner, Muhammad Aamir, stated that the film portrays the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as sympathisers of terrorists, depicts Lyari as a terrorist war zone, and uses images of late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and PPP flags without authorization.
Filed under Sections 22-A and 22-B, the petition names the film’s director, producer, actors and other members of the production team as accused, while relevant police officials have been made respondents. Muhammad Aamir, who identified himself as a PPP worker, told the court that he viewed the film’s trailer and promotional material on social media on December 10 at a caf© within the jurisdiction of Darakhshan Police Station.
The petition argues that the use of party leadership images, flags and rallies falsely portrays the PPP as supporting terrorism, terming it propaganda that has created hatred and hostility against the party, its leadership and supporters. It further states that the content amounts to offences including defamation, criminal intimidation, incitement to riots and promoting enmity among different groups.
The petitioner has requested the court to direct the SHO to register an FIR and to order an investigation under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (South).
Earlier, Noreen Aslam, widow of martyred Sindh police officer Chaudhry Aslam, also raised strong objections to the alleged negative portrayal of her husband in Dhurandhar and announced her intention to pursue legal action. She said the film appears to contain anti-Pakistan propaganda that misrepresents her husband’s services and damages Pakistan’s image.
