Peshawar: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has sought reply from the government on the petition filed against non-implementation of Legal Aid Act-2019.

The petition against non implementation of Legal Aid Act-2019 came up for hearing in PHC Thursday. Justice Ejaz Anwar and justice Muhammad Naeem Anwar heard the petition.

Noman Mohib counsel for the petitioner took the plea Legal Aid Agency was to be established in KP for the persons who could not afford the expenses of hiring services of lawyers but the act has not been implemented so far despite lapse of 6 years.

According to lawyer, free legal assistance was to be provided to such prisoners and women facing domestic disputes who could not afford the expenses for hiring lawyer.

Justice Ejaz Anwar inquired during the hearing of the case government is bound to provide free services of lawyer in what cases.

The counsel told the court government is bound to pay fee of the lawyers on its own in the cases related to prisoners and domestic disputes related cases of women.

The court while seeking detailed reply from chief secretary and secretary law KP adjourned the hearing of the case.
