Islamabad: Consultation process has been started for appointment of new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and two members of Election Commission (EC).

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has invited opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Omar Ayub to hold meeting in connection with appointment of new CEC and two members of EC.

PM Shehbaz Sharif has written a letter to Omar Ayub saying that tenure of CEC and two members has expired on January 26.

CEC and two members have continued their work under article 215 of the constitution.

It has been said in the letter that proposals for CEC and two members have to be sent to parliamentary committee under article 218 of the constitution. I extend invitation to you for meeting in regard to appointment of CEC and two members of EC.
