Karachi: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the new Shalimar Express train and modernized Karachi Cantt station on Monday.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Pakistan Railways for this upgradation.
Commending the collaboration between Sindh government and Pakistan Railways, the Prime Minister emphasized replicating it with the provincial governments of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said this exemplary federal-provincial partnership will result in developing Pakistan Railways as a modern transportation network in the region.
He said central Asia has a huge potential for development of Railways network and the proactive approach demonstrated by Pakistan Railways will make Pakistan a regional hub of communications.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said the resumption of Islamabad-Tehran Istanbul train will usher in a new era of economic growth and development for Pakistan.
He said the federal and Sindh governments will continue efforts for completion of Karachi Circular Line project.
The Prime Minister said the federal government will ensure disbursement of funds required to complete the Thar Coal railway project aimed at linking the Thar coal deposits to Pakistan Railways network.
He applauded the Railways Minister for refurbishing 54 Railway stations in the country so far and expressed the hope that all Railway stations across the country will be modernized soon.
Earlier, the Railways Minister briefed about the major projects being worked at.
The Railways Minister said first ever smart and safe railway station has been established in Rawalpindi with collaboration of FWO and another one with 250 cameras is being established in Karachi.
Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the residence of Nawabzada Jam Karam Ali and Prince Jam Qaim Ali in Karachi.
Federal Ministers Attaullah Tarar and Hanif Abbasi as well as Special Assistant Talha Burki accompanied the Prime Minister.
Consuls General of friendly countries residing in Karachi also participated in the meeting.
