Lahore: Judge has recused from hearing petition against the 27th constitutional amendment in Lahore High Court (LHC).

Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal while recusing himself from hearing the petition on personal grounds sent the file to Chief Justice (CJ) LHC Aalia Neelum.

Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique will appear on behalf of petitioner s Munir Ahmad and others.

Prime Minister and speaker National Assembly have been made respondents through the petition.

The petition said Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has been constituted by abolishing original power of Supreme Court (SC).

It is feared that it will weaken the position of SC besides affecting the independence of the judiciary.

According to petitioner the 27th constitutional amendment runs contrary to Islamic clauses judicial independence and basis rights. No opinion was obtained from lawyers, civil society, journalists and other communities in this regard.

The court has been requested through the petition to declare 27th constitutional amendment null and void besides halting implementation of this amendment till the final decision regarding the petition.
